Dear Solarthermalworld.org Reader,
It
was a historic moment for the renewable industry in India: 2,860
delegates from 42 countries came to New Delhi on 15 February to attend
the opening ceremony of the first Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet
& Expo, RE-Invest, with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
With the eyes of the global renewable industry on India, the government
used the international attention to announce very ambitious targets for
renewable deployment by 2022 and to attract an investment of USD 200
billion across all energy-related sectors. But if one reads carefully
between the lines, one realises that all objectives only concern the
renewable power sector: The solar power target of the Jawaharlal Nehru
National Solar Mission from November 2009 was increased five-fold from
20 GW to 100 GW by 2022, whereas the National Solar Mission aim of 20
million m² collector area by 2022 was confirmed during the event, but
not raised. India´s solar heating and cooling industry has to stand
together and speak up to avoid being pushed aside by the renewable
electricity boom expected over the coming years.
Have a good read and sunny regards
