Conditions and Problems to Be Aware of When Integrating Solar Combisystems in Buildings (2003)

This is a deliverable of the European Commission’s Altener Solar Combisystem Project, related to the IEA Task 26. The programme ran between 2001 and 2003, involving Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and The Netherlands.

The goals of the project were to support the installation of combisystems, study the efficiency of these installations and to develop programme for performance estimation. The study reveals the three main types of problems encountered: problems related to the system itself (components, system design etc.), problems related to the interaction of the solar heating system with conditions of the installation site and problems arising from erroneous and/or insufficient installation or maintenance.

Results revealed the fact that most problems arise either from bad parameter setting from the controller, or the incorrect installation and maintenance of the equipment.
