Despite the global crisis in the economy, the Chinese vacuum tube collector manufacturer Jiangsu Sunrain Solar Water Heater Manufacture Co. LTD grows at a fast rate. “In 2008, we doubled our turnover worldwide”, announced Xin Jian Xu, founder and president of the company. “We are also affected by the financial crisis, but it did not really thwart our plans.” The president stressed the particular responsibility that the industry has for its employees and the society, notably in times of crises. In this very context, it was especially impressive to see the assistance of Sunrain to victims of the earthquake in Sichuan Province in May 2008. The solar thermal manufacturer donated 1.1 million RMB, 1,000 tents and 1,000 quilts. The president, accompanied by 15 volunteers, travelled all the way to the disaster area to bring the equipment there himself .

Sunrain runs a huge collector assembling factory in the city of Lianyungang in the Province of Jiangsu and opened a second factory in the same city last year. In 2008, the company planned to produce 2.44 million m2 of collector area - 74% more than in the previous year, David Liu, Sunrain's vice president, announced in a survey of the internationally published magazine Sun & Wind Energy, in September of 2008.

And Sunrain really boosted its export business: According to Xu, turnover in the USA quadrupled last year; it tripled in South East Asia and doubled in Europe. The overall export rate increased from 18% in 2007 to 25% in 2008. The company that started producing solar thermal collectors in 1999 employs today around 2,000 people in the city of Lianyungang in the province of Jiangsu. It purchases vacuum tubes from the Chinese manufacturer Linuo New Material.
