Summit for Environmental Action Solar Hot Water Implementation Group Report (2008)

Submitted by Todd Costello on March 31, 2010

This report summarizes the Summit for Environmental Action in 2008. The goal of this summit is to have approximately half of all new and existing construction (commercial and residential) in Sarasota County to use solar thermal systems.

It gives a summary of existing hot water programs, which is for the owner of the property to contract with the independent installers to get a federal tax credit and a state rebate, and then identify how to approach gaining awareness on solar thermal systems.

They realize getting 50 percent (over 20,000 systems) is a tough goal to achieve. Some barriers that they have to confront are explaining high upfront costs, have a stronger marketing effort, and develop a different business model. The summit realizes they have to work closer with the counties and cities to achieve their goal and would entail evaluating finance options.
