This presentation is from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) OpenCourseWare program on Sustainable Energy. It provides an overview of solar thermal technology including power towers, solar thermal cooling and storage technologies.
Different concentrating solar thermal technologies such as solar chimneys, parabolic troughs and heliostat fields are all briefly detailed with graphs and key points about their history and economic viability. From here, the presentation tackles the different forms of solar heating and cooling for buildings, focusing on passive and active systems. Finally, the presentation concludes with a look at solar thermal storage and how it can increase the market value of solar thermal systems.
