Solar Thermal Science and Engineering (2011)
This presentation comes from Michigan State University where it is used in the Chemistry Department. It covers the basics behind solar thermal heating, and how that science is used in the design and application of solar thermal technologies.
The presentation begins by discussing how solar water heaters are the largest sector of the solar thermal market and how the US has the largest solar thermal commercial plants. From there, the presentation moves on to listing the various levels of temperature systems and which technologies are used for each, such as flat plate collectors for low temperature systems and parabolic trough concentrators for high temperature systems. The presentation concludes with a discussion of the best types of materials for various solar thermal designs.
