Solar Thermal Roof Tile Heating Systems (2011)

This document was created by American Solar, and it provides information on their innovative solar thermal air heating and water heating roofing systems.
The system described in the document works the following way. First, metal roofing tiles are installed on a residence or more often a commercial building. Next, the system captures the solar heated air and circulates it throughout the building. The innovation here is that there is no solar collector necessary, instead being replaced by the roofing tiles. In some installations, an air to water heat exchanger can be installed to also produce solar thermal hot water heating.
