Solar Thermal Applications in the Delmarva Poultry Industry (2006)

Submitted by Dan Fernandez on January 10, 2012

This report was written for the Delaware Million Solar Roofs Coalition (DEMSR). It focuses on the use of solar thermal installations by the poultry sector in the “Delmarva” area as a result of a Delaware state government initiative to increase the use of renewable energy throughout the state.

The report was commissioned after the Delaware Energy Task Force decided in 2003 that the regional poultry industry was an area ripe for the adoption of renewable energy processes in their operations. The report finds that preheating water in poultry processing could serve as a cost-effective way to increase the use of solar thermal energy for regional industry. The investigators came to this conclusion after detailed research into the operations of the area’s largest poultry companies.
