NJ Green Building Manual - Solar Thermal Systems (2011)

Submitted by Dan Fernandez on May 8, 2012

This excerpt from the New Jersey Green Building Manual focuses on solar thermal water heating systems. It was published by Rutgers University, and includes information on the costs and benefits of solar thermal systems.

Solar thermal systems that capture the energy of the sun are generally used to directly heat water for residential use. Solar thermal systems come in three categories: flat-plate, evacuated tube, direct circulation. They work best when demand for hot water is consistent and traditional energy costs are high. A main benefit of solar thermal is the amount of carbon emissions that they can offset.
