Laundromat Needs Create Thriving Solar Thermal Business (2008)

Submitted by Dan Fernandez on June 7, 2012

This case study was written by Mondial Energy. It follows the company’s change from originally being a laundromat with a solar thermal hot water heating system to a successful solar thermal company.

Alex Winch, owner of Mondial Energy, originally had purchased and operated a laundromat in Canada. After he successfully installed 16 solar thermal panels which satisfied 30% of his hot water needs at the laundromat, the revenue of the laundromat began to increase. He decided this was a business model that there was a market for, and went into the solar thermal business. Mondial now has solar thermal hot water systems operating in many places throughout Canada, including a hospital, a housing development, and municipal facilities in Quebec.
