A Direct Solar Water Heating System for the Health Clinic in the Town of Santa Isabel Cholula, State of Puebla, Mexico (2012)

Submitted by Dan Fernandez on June 18, 2012

This report abstract was written by researchers from Appalachian State University in North Carolina and Universidad de las Americas Puebla in Mexico. It reports on a solar thermal water heating installation for a health clinic in Mexico that was installed by the two universities.

The solar thermal water heating installation was installed in a health clinic serving a rural area of Mexico. The researchers intend to study the installation long term, but preliminary results show a 50% reduction in natural gas usage at the health clinic. Latin American countries show great potential for solar thermal growth, because of the warm and sunny climate. Also, many rural areas are removed from the grid, so solar thermal development could help bring warm water to underserved areas.
