CSP Deployment in Mexico (2012)
This presentation was created and published by Mexico’s Comision Federal de Electricidad. It provides information on the current state of utility development in Mexico, and how Comision Federal de Electricidad is planning on using solar thermal power to fill in existing gaps.
Almost 98% of the Mexican population has access to electricity; however that still leaves nearly 130,000 small communities without access to electricity. Mexican utilities first large scale foray into solar thermal power will be a 500 MW hybrid solar thermal project which is currently under construction. It is expected to come on-line in 2013, and will include 14 MWs generated with CSP technology which was financed by the World Bank. This project will serve as a learning experience for the Comision Federal de Electricidad, which is hoping to replicate the project in sites currently being scouted.
