Case Study - Bexar County Adult Detention Center Annex (2012)
This document is a case study from CincoSolar, Inc. that showcases one of the largest evacuated tube solar thermal systems in the country. The Bexar County Adult Detention Center Annex installed 216 evacuated tube solar thermal panels and is now saving $60,000 annually in energy costs.
Installed in 2010, the system is the largest of its kind in the state of Texas. With over 2,000 inmates, facilities like this are ideal for extensive installations like this. Using a 20,000 gallon storage tank and a sophisticated controls system, the solar thermal system provides hot water to showers, to the building’s laundry and kitchen, and to sinks for hand-washing. This case study serves as an example of the potential for successful partnerships between local government and the renewable energy industry.
